How to Deep Clean Your Bathroom

Bathroom cleaning is not a fun job, but it is something that has to be done. Your bathroom is one of the most germ-infested areas in your house, and hence, giving it a deep cleaning treatment from time to time makes perfect sense.

De-cluttering your bathroom is essential. It sets the stage for what is to come – deep cleaning. For a germ-free and sparkling bathroom, it is best to give it a good scrub once every week and clean out the toilet, the sink, the tub, the shower, and the floor. Deep cleaning can be done once every other month.

Here are a few easy tips on giving your bathroom a deep-clean makeover.

Begin with the Toilet

It is best, to begin with, the toilet, as that will take quite some time. Start the deep cleaning processes by using the toilet cleaner not just inside the bowl, but also outside it. Make sure you apply it thoroughly under the rim and on the toilet seat as well. Let it sit for about half an hour, or as mentioned on the instruction leaflet of the toilet cleaner.

In the meantime, you can proceed to clean the other areas of your bathroom.

After half an hour, use a brush to scrub the toilet bowl to wedge out the stubborn dirt and stains. Don’t forget to clean the flush tank. Use detergent to clean the lever of the toilet tank.

Follow this up by rinsing the toilet thoroughly with water. Wipe the toilet seat and the tank with a dry cloth.

Organize and Clean the Counter tops

The bathroom countertop is extremely susceptible to getting cluttered due to the sheer range of products we use — toiletries, cosmetics, styling products, and so on. You need to take the time and de-clutter here. Separate the items you use from that which you don’t and those that have expired. Discard what you do not need.

Clean the countertop with a detergent and water solution. Scrub stubborn stains with a brush and wash off with water. Dry the countertop with a cloth.

Replace damaged items with new ones. Arrange all of them systematically as per their usage. Install baskets, holders, and containers to store your items and ensure that the counter looks neat, tidy, and clean.

The Sink and the Faucets

Make it a point to clean your sink and clean it thoroughly!

There are easy ways to make your sink germ-free. Mix white vinegar and water in equal parts and fill the solution in a spray bottle. Spray this on your sink and the faucets. With the help of a soft sponge or brush, scrub them to remove stubborn soap, toothpaste, and hard-water build-up on them.

Finally rinse them with water and wipe them dry with a cloth.

Bathroom Shower and the Tub

You may think it is unimportant to clean your shower head because after all, you use the water from it to clean yourself. However, the use of water and soap in the bathtub/shower daily leads to a build-up and stains.

You can use the white vinegar-water solution here again as it will help you dislodge dirt and remove spots. Scrub the shower and the tub with a brush until they’re clean. Rinse with water.

If your shower head is clogged, you can fill a plastic bag with the solution and place it over the showerhead such that it is completely immersed into it. Leave it there overnight and turn the shower on in the morning to clean it.

Don’t Forget the Bathroom Shower Curtain/Glass Door

You can clean your plastic shower curtain in your washing machine with your regular detergent. Watch out for mold, though. Mold can be very harmful to your health. If there is too much of it and if it refuses to go away, you might want to replace your shower curtain altogether.

To clean the glass shower door, spray some glass cleaner over it and wipe it by starting from the top and working your way down. Wipe with a dry cloth or scrunched-up newspaper to avoid streaks.

Clean the Mirrors and the Windows

Your mirror is probably one of the most expensive pieces of décor in your bathroom. Don’t let the dampness, and the heat from hot water damage it. Use a felt cloth to clean the mirror. You can also use newspaper to give it a final wipe for a streak-free finish.

You will do well using the diluted vinegar solution now and then to clean it.

Windows can be cleaned with detergent water. Rinse them with plain water and wipe with a dry cloth.

The Bathroom Floor

The floor should be cleaned in the end as you’re sure to spill water and other things on it when washing your toilet, countertop, shower, etc.

Start by sweeping/vacuuming it. Prepare a DIY floor cleaner by adding ½ cup baking soda, 1 cup distilled white vinegar, and 1 cup ammonia to a bucket of warm water. Mop the floor with this and allow to air dry.

Wait! You’re not done yet. Check your bathroom for signs of mold. It can be irritating, stubborn, and can harm your health. If you find mold, you will do well to engage the service of professionals to have it treated.

Other Areas of Concern

Your bathroom lights, cabinets, and drawers are other areas of concern. These can be cleaned easily using a dry and damp cloth, respectively. Do not forget to wipe them from the bottom as well.

Conclusion

In order to make your bathroom-cleaning efficient, you will have to carry out the task in a systematic manner. You will need to make a list of the items needed to clean it, as well as be mindful that you do not miss out on any area. Remember, a clean bathroom will help you start your day well, as well as play a part in helping you unwind at the end of it.
